Five generations of artistic mastery
The Ochs Art Archive
Gustav Ochs (15.4.1825 /7.11.1858 in Magdeburg), was one of eleven children born to ur-ancestor Peter Ludwig Heinrich Ochs, born 15.11.1788, and his wife, Christiane Schaefer, whom he married in 1817. Two of his brothers, Walter and Albert, were also trained artists but switched to photography and set up a studio together. Gustav did not join them; apparently he spent a lot of time in Switzerland, judging by the number of drawings he did there. According to his descendant Peter Paul Ochs, Gustav was the most talented of them all, but died very young, aged only thirty three.
