Five generations of artistic mastery
The Ochs Art Archive
The three brothers, Albert, Gustav and Walther, all became artists. Albert Friedrich Wilhelm, (26.6.1823/ 14.5.1878 in Magdeburg), was a trained artist who made the transition to photography along with his brother Walther. Together they founded the 'Gebrueder Ochs' Foto-Atelier', which won many medals in international exhibitions. Gustav is the portraitist of the dynasty; he painted the portraits of his ancestors as well as himself, and excelled at figurative art as well as delicate drawings of flowers. Walther also founded the 'Graphische Kunst-Anstalt' (Graphic Arts Institute), but little else is known about him and there are no surviving works that we are aware of.
